From Headmaster

Dear Parents,

It has been good to see so many of you in the College this week. Junior School parents were here on Monday for the Welcome Back Information Evening and Wednesday saw the turn of the Senior School Key Stage 3 parents for their Information Evening. I thank all the presenters and of course parents for supporting your children's education.

We are keen to tap into parental knowledge, even at this early stage of the term, so it was with pleasure that we welcomed Dr. Yue Zhuge, DCB parent and trustee and CEO of Hulu, China, a leading video streaming company with a research and development centre in Beijing. Dr. Yue, along with Hulu engineer Mr. Li, gave a fascinating presentation to our students on 'machine learning' and artificial intelligence. Thank you to both presenters and also to Mr. Karasik for organising this event for our students, who left the event teeming with ideas.

We also aim to engage more alumni this year, so it was a delight to see former Head Girl Johanna Shen (class of 2017) back into DCB to talk to parents and students about her experiences at Yale University. She gave many useful insights into university life, and spoke passionately about her own journey.

Another former student I would like to highlight is Tony Yun, who left DCB in 2015 to study piano at Julliard. Last month, he was named the 2018 champion at the Thomas and Evon Cooper International Competition in Cleveland. Congratulations! You can read about Tony's story, and the support he received during his years at DCB, on China Daily.

Sports try-outs have been taking place and matches start this weekend. Mr. Kraetzer places all fixtures on the weekly calendar, so please do come to support when you can. Last year was a super year for Dulwich College Beijing sporting successes and we hope for more of the same! May I stress again the value of exercise within the students' daily lives, to promote a positive sense of wellbeing.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you at Cricket Pitch today for the Welcome Back Party!

Kind regards and have a good weekend,

Simon Herbert

NEW Parent WeChat Guidelines

Please note that informal parent WeChat groups, while useful for sharing school-related information, are not managed or monitored by the College. As these groups consist of Dulwich parents, we ask that the groups follow the school's communication guidelines. Please contact me if you have any questions.  Please click here to see the guidelines

Friends of Dulwich Open Meeting,   Wednesday 5 Sept, Coffee and Books, 9:15am, ALL INVITED!

Hey DCB Parents, did you know you are all members of Friends of Dulwich?

That means you are all more than welcome to join parent activities, have fun together, and best of all, enhance the school experience for our children!

We are the parent community at DCB and organise or run:

*   Coffee & Books – a coffee shop on campus open 9:00am to 3:00pm

*   Dulwich Lion Supporters

*   Culture Club outings & Connection lunches

*   Charity events, bazaars, book fairs

*   Dulwich Dinner Dance

*  And more!

You can come participate in any of the above. Or, to get to know people on a deeper level, come volunteer as much or as little as you have time for. Specifically:

*   Become a class rep

*   Take a shift at Coffee & Books or at an event

*   Support the Dulwich Lions at sports games and tournaments

*   Chaperone class trips

*   Share your skills, expertise, stories

*   Join the executive committee

It means a lot to the kids to see their parents actively involved in their school life. Bonus: By volunteering, you will also serve as a great example for them!

To take an active part at DCB, contact your class rep or about volunteering for a variety of jobs big and small!

Better yet, come to our first meeting on Wed 5 September at 9:15 a.m. at Coffee & Books! Headmaster Simon Herbert will also be joining us to give an update on College matters.

See you soon!
