From Headmaster

Dear Parents,

It made me exceptionally proud last Saturday to see the combined efforts of all three DCB Art Departments at the Smile Angel Hospital in Wanjing. Mr Dong, Ms. Carmichael, Ms. Corben and Mr. Stewart all spoken eloquently about the project in which our students of all ages have been engaged. The title of the project is 'Miracles'. The hospital walls are now splendidly decked out with DCB art, from cocoons crafted by Early Years, to Junior School dogs, and Senior School fairy tale images in the main foyer. Owing to the excellent work of Ms. Xiaoxiao Qin, DCB Director of Chinese and Public Affairs, who volunteered in the hospital and introduced us to their leadership, we have been able to establish this link. As the students said, 'The transformative journey experienced by patients of healing and growth is reflected through the exhibition's focus on natural forms, kaleidoscopic colours and interactive displays.' Well done to all the student artists and in particular those responsible for initiating this project: Michael G, Vivian T, Ivy K and Victoria Y.

In preparation for the international flavour of Founder's Day, our Early Years and Junior School children have enjoyed a variety of parent-led workshops and fun activities to celebrate International Week and understanding of other cultures. We have seen a British afternoon tea, Korean dancing, Chinese tea ceremony and flower arranging, traditional Mongolian clothes, Cuban dancing, Taekwondo exhibitions, Singaporean tasty treats, calligraphy and much more. We are so grateful to all the parents who generously gave up their time to help the children.

You will be delighted to know that the Friends' Shop is very much back up and running, under new ownership! Our Friends' Committee decided that it was time to allow the older students to run the shop and they have done a super job so far, selling only the healthiest food. The students have been creative and Alina Y and Howard Y have driven sales up through some sharp business practices and a swift renovation, helped by Aisyah T and Clara de P. Twenty Year 12 students are now taking turns in the shop and have negotiated deals with local artisan health food suppliers. It was a special moment when Howard and Alina presented to the Friends' Committee and received not only a round of applause but also requests to share their electronic point of sale system and purchasing trackers. I look forward to buying my share of healthy ice cream, coconut yoghurt, ice cream and vegetable crisps.

I look forward to seeing you on Founder's Day.

Kind regards,

Simon Herbert

Founder's Day Is Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is our Founder's Day! Please make sure to read through the important information sent to parent email yesterday. Founder's Day is DCB's biggest community event of the year.

It's a truly grand day of fun. Please  click the link below to see this year's programme.

With some rain forecasted for tomorrow's late afternoon, it may be a good idea to pack  a raincoat or an umbrella alongside your picnic blanket and a sunscreen!

Here are a few tips for the day:

*   If possible, please walk or cycle to the event. Bicycles can be parked at the Rugby Pitch car park.

*   If driving, please park in the river road main car park. The car park by the rugby pitch will be closed to all vehicles, and only pedestrians and cyclists will be able to enter. If your driver drops you off, please ask him to park off site to allow families driving themselves to have the car park spaces.

*   Please bring your DCB parent lanyards for a quick entry to the fields. The event is open to the broader community and all your friends are invited but they will have to sign up at one of the welcome receptions.

*   EY and JS children have to be accompanied by their parents at the event please. Our staff will be manning the activity booths and cannot look after the children.

*   The Lost & Found station will be located in the centre next to the First Aid stand.

*   Bring some cash with you as not all of the stalls will be able to take WeChat payments. All profits from the International Food Festival and beverage stands will be donated to a charity chosen by the Friends of Dulwich and Interact – Bethel China - and to the Dulwich Student Enrichment Fund (50%/50% split).

*   Plan your day - this is a very busy day, with a lot of activities so I would suggest looking at the programme and schedule before the day. There will be rugby, netball and football matches, Early Years play area, splash zone, raffle hampers, pop idol and so much more - don't miss out!  Please read the programme for timings.

Update from Friends of Dulwich

Dear Friends

Dulwich Dinner Dance - RMB 150,390 for the Yunnan Project

We would like to personally thank you for your generous donation to the Dulwich Dinner Dance on 14 April at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This was a highly successful evening with over 240 guests attending . In total, we raised RMB 150,390 for the Yunnan Project. This couldn't have been accomplished without your support and generosity.  Thank you to all those who came and supported this special community event!

Founder's Day  Charity -  Bethel China

Each year, Friends of Dulwich parent volunteers organise an amazing International Food Festival and Country Baskets ( Hampers) Raffle  during Founder's Day to celebrate our fantastic international community as well as help with fundraising  efforts for the school.  This year's chosen charity for Founder's day will be Bethel China.  The charity provides foster care to blind and visually impaired children throughout China, with education and therapy programmes. In Beijing they operate a city life project as well as  foster up to 8 children and our  charity student group Interact  has been supporting  them for some time already.

Together we can ensure that the Founder's Day this weekend is a truly spectacular one! Hope to see you all there!

Kind Regards,

Erie Hamilton
