Friday 4 May 2018 Dulwich Newsletter ![]() ![]() From Headmaster Dear Parents,
It was a pleasure to see so many parents, students and supporters at the DCB Car Boot Sale on Tuesday. Very well done to DCB parents Coco Shi, Michelle Yuan and Lucy Lu for their idea and organisation. Fifty-five sellers were present and the local community enjoyed picking up some bargains! The Herbert, Astbury and Du families joined in with the selling fun as well. Registration fees from vendors went to the charity Roundabout and we are grateful to Charlotte Beckett and her helpers for their presence on the day too. We are looking to make this a tradition – same time next year, so get ready for a spring clean. Our Early Years Council has dedicated a 'friendship bench' to the College. This can be found near the sandpit in the Early Years playground. Supported by Ms. Reid, the children decided to install a colourful bench, on which anyone feeling a little sad can sit and then be joined by those who can provide some cheerful company. I may go and sit there too one day, and see what happens! A lovely idea and one which the children heard more about this week in their assembly at Legend Garden. One reason that a child might feel less able to cope with the lively pace of a school like DCB is through a lack of sleep. Our Junior School teachers, led by the indomitable Mr. Ross, have put in time to engage with the students and parents on this issue. What has emerged is that most students have suitable sleep patterns and routines, but that a significant minority do not. This has been addressed through some excellent workshops, in which the advised amount of sleep (age related) and its benefits have been emphasized. Well done Mr. Ross for raising such a crucial topic. For anyone who missed the presentations and would like information, please contact our Junior School office. On Friday, our Early Years children enjoyed a wonderful Sports Day in the sunshine. There were many activities and some of our parents even tried their hand at the 'tug of war'. Our Junior School helpers and cheerleaders also added to the occasion. Thank you very much to Mr. Du for organising such a fun event. I would also like to commend our Head of Facilities, Operations and Safety, Mr. George Jiang, for captivating his staff audience through his demonstration of the art of calligraphy on Friday lunchtime. It was excellent to see an expert in action and to try to emulate his technique, more or less successfully! Finally, a big mention for another superb DCB football team. The Junior Varsity Boys, captained by Stanley M, rounded of an extraordinary season with victory in the ISAC competition at Harrow on Saturday. This caps a season in which they scored 53 and let in only 1 goal! Amazing. Well done boys and thank you to the magic from coaches Lowish, Hermans and Smith! ![]() Hope you manage to enjoy this beautiful weather with your families at the weekend.
Kind regards, ![]() Simon Herbert

Notifications Safeguarding: Visitor ID Check, May 7-11
We take safety issues very much to heart. During our security spot checks at the school entrances, it came to our attention that some visitors (mainly ayis and drivers) have been entering our school grounds carrying green lanyards with photo ID cards that do not belong to them. This is very alarming and to ensure effective safeguarding of our students, our security guards will be checking ID cards of all visitors in the week of May 7th to May 11th.
Please note that visitors carrying lanyards with no matching photos will have them confiscated and will be asked to sign up separately with the security desk. Thank you for your understanding and support on this matter. If you need an additional ID card for your ayi, driver or guardian, please apply for it at one of our reception desks asap.
Parking and Drop off Procedures
We noticed that our new Express Route Drop off lane through our bus car park is working quite well and we managed to further reduce car traffic during the morning rush hour. Please see below as a reminder about the Express Route Drop off : * Operating Time: Everyday 7.30am to 8.20am * The lane is designed for a quick drop off ONLY, drivers cannot leave vehicles at any time We ask all parents and drivers to follow the above rules and park their vehicles only in designated places. Please note that we do not have VIP parking places and all parents are expected to follow the same parking rules.
We would ask all drivers, including parents, to respect our guards and their instructions. The children's safety will be much more secure if the guards' authority is recognised. Any abuse of our staff will not be tolerated and all instances will be reported directly to the Headmaster and to the DBA.
Thank you for your desire to make safeguarding of every one of our students, the highest priority.
