Friday 10 November 2017 Dulwich Newsletter

From Headmaster

Dear Parents,

A shortened newsletter this week, as we have had two professional learning days for our staff.

We teach our students that learning is for life and I am delighted that our teachers and support staff model this themselves, always looking to hone their skills and continue their own learning. I thank all the staff who gave presentations or workshops to their colleagues.

Our invited guest this year was Mr. Ben Walden. He worked with our students on Wednesday and staff on Thursday. Mr. Walden is an international speaker and educational workshop leader, who has presented at both Harvard and Columbia Business Schools. He has delivered keynote speeches at conferences in Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia. He started life as an actor and had great success in the 1990s playing several lead roles in London's West End and at Shakespeare's new Globe. I would like to thank Mr. Ben Walden for making the trip from the UK to give an inspiring keynote presentation, in which he used Shakespeare's Henry V to discuss leadership in all its facets.

During the FOBISIA Heads' Conference in Kuala Lumpur, I enjoyed sessions on student wellbeing from international experts and shall feed back to my colleagues at Dulwich. Whilst away, I heard about the Chinese Debating Competition held at DCB last weekend and would like to thank Ms. Grace Gong for her organisation of this superb event and Ms. Connie Chou and her student musicians for supporting the closing ceremony.

I also wish safe travels to those students who are currently in Cambodia on the house building service trip and to those who on Thursday travelled to the US for the final round of the World Scholars' Cup.

Kind regards and have a good weekend,

Simon Herbert
