Friday 15 September 2017 Dulwich Newsletter

From Headmaster

Dear Parents,

It has been a pleasure this term to see so many of our students engaged in exercise. Our Junior School students excelled in their House Cross Country races on Tuesday, with many strong performances as they ran either once around the pitches (Years 3 and 4) or twice (Years 5 and 6). We encourage all of our students to run regularly and to make the most of any day when the air is good, either during the week or at weekends. Mr. Parry has some very interesting plans to track fitness levels through the year and to engage the children in healthy choices.

Some Senior School students also stretched themselves physically from 1st – 5th September, by participating in the Silver International Award.  They spent five days in a beautiful mountainous area known as Wutai Shan, or Five Temple Mountain. Each peak has its own temple (North, South, East, West and Central Temple). They enjoyed/endured a tough hike and reached the highest point of Northern China (3061m). Thank you to the accompanying teachers and well done to the students. Mr. Knapper says that it beats the Peak District!

Maths workshops have taken place this week, explaining to Early Years parents how Maths is delivered to our youngest students. Thank you to the teachers involved and to the many parents who attended and worked so hard!

As you may know, I was away in Singapore on Thursday for the celebration of the life of Mr. Nolan Brook, former Head of Maths at DCB. Over two hundred people were present at the service, a worthy tribute to a kind, funny and loyal colleague, teacher and friend to so many. The photo below shows the number of former and current DCB teachers who made the journey to pay their respects.

Kind regards and have a good weekend,

Simon Herbert
